Privacy Policy

In short: your library stays with you, in your browser and in the app's hidden folder in your own Google Drive. We run no server that stores your library, your account details or camera images. No ads, no tracking.

Using the app without signing in

You can use My Vinyl Library without an account. Your records are then stored only in your browser on your device and are not sent to us or anywhere else.

Signing in with Google: what we receive and why

• Name, email address and profile picture (openid, email, profile). They are shown in the app menu so you know which account is connected. They are stored only in your browser and are never sent to us.
• Access to the app's hidden folder in Google Drive (drive.appdata). A single file, vinyl-library.json, holding your list of records is saved there to back it up and sync it between your devices. The app has no access to any other file in your Drive and cannot see, read or change them.

Drive is accessed directly from your browser to Google. The data never passes through a server of ours.

What is stored

For each record: the details you enter or that came from a lookup, such as artist, album title, year, genre, label, catalogue number, barcode, country, format, a cover image link, track list and your own notes. This is stored in your browser and, if you signed in, in the app folder of your Google Drive.

Camera

The camera is used only to read barcodes, and recognition runs inside the browser on your device. Images are never saved or sent anywhere. Only the recognised barcode number is used for the lookup described below.

Third-party services

• MusicBrainz: when you scan a barcode or search by name, the barcode or search text is sent to MusicBrainz to find the record's details (their privacy policy).
• Discogs: the barcode or search text is also sent to Discogs through this site's server, which forwards only the search itself (their privacy policy). Cover images from Discogs load from their servers.
• Cover Art Archive: cover images are loaded from the Cover Art Archive (run with the Internet Archive).
• Google: sign-in (Google Identity Services), Google Drive, and the site font (Google Fonts).

As with any website, these services and the server hosting this site see your device's IP address when it connects to them and may keep standard technical access logs.

What we don't do

• We do not sell or share any data.
• We show no ads and use no tracking or analytics tools.
• We use no tracking cookies. The app keeps only your library, your preferences and a temporary sign-in token in browser storage (localStorage).

Google API data

My Vinyl Library's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The data is used only to store and show you your own library.

Deleting your data

• Signing out from the app menu deletes the copy on the device and revokes the access token.
• To delete the file from Drive: Google Drive settings → Manage apps → My Vinyl Library → Options → Delete hidden app data.
• To remove the app's access entirely: Google Account → Third-party apps & services.
• Clearing this site's data in your browser removes everything stored on the device.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update this page and the date at the top. Material changes to how data is used will also be announced in the app.
